No one should have to spend the festive
 season struggling to breathe

Your kind gift today helps people like Wiki Power, with asthma stay safe at home this festive season

Summer in Australia can be challenging for people living with asthma. Hot dry air, bushfire smoke and summer allergens can trigger dangerous flare-ups. For many, this means missed celebrations or even a frightening trip to the hospital.

Your support keeps lifesaving asthma research moving forward and helps people like Wiki stay safe out of the hospital and close to the people they love.

Please donate today and help prevent asthma attacks before they begin.

Research in WA is creating hope for people with asthma

Dr Sanjay Ramakrishnan from the Institute for Respiratory Health is leading a study called PREACT. The research looks for tiny changes in the blood that appear weeks before an asthma attack. The goal is to predict flare ups early so treatment can begin before symptoms start.

Most asthma treatments only help once symptoms have already begun. PREACT aims to shift care to earlier intervention and protect people before an attack becomes severe.

Dr Sanjay works closely with Dr Michael Fricker from the University of Newcastle. Dr Fricker is an expert in asthma immunology and gene expression and together they are working to uncover new warning signals that could guide future asthma care.

Your generosity today supports world-leading asthma research in Western Australia and helps keep people like Wiki safe during the festive season when asthma flare ups often increase.

This festive season your support can help people like Wiki breathe easier again

"I thought it was just a bad cold at first. Nights sitting up on the couch coughing and trying to breathe

became normal for me. I did not realise how much worse my asthma had become.”

When Dr Sanjay invited her to join a clinical trial Wiki did not hesitate. Her previous treatment was no longer helping and she wanted to be part of research that could improve life for others as well as herself.

"This is the first year I have not needed extended sick leave. I feel so much better and I am hopeful. If we could stop asthma attacks before they start it would change everything for so many Western Australians."
