“I never planned to go into research but everything changed when I lost my mum to cancer.”
Mackenzie Lighton
Give families facing mesothelioma more time together

When Mackenzie’s mum was diagnosed with mesothelioma, she wanted more time, better treatment options and hope. After losing her mum, Mackenzie chose to go into research so she could help other families facing this devastating disease.
Today, she works alongside Dr Alistair Cook on research that could help change what families face after a mesothelioma diagnosis.
We need your help to raise $20,000 before 30 June to move this promising research closer to clinical trials and help give families more time together.

Mesothelioma takes time that families should have shared together
Mesothelioma is an aggressive asbestos-related cancer and Western Australia has one of the highest rates in the world. For many families, there are too few treatment options and not enough time.
Mackenzie knows that pain all too well. She remembers her mum as brave, funny and full of love. Even when she was unwell, she still tried to make people laugh and make good memories with her family.

Dr Alistair Cook’s research is helping give families more time together
Dr Alistair Cook, research leader, and his team are exploring promising new research into whether radiotherapy may improve the way immunotherapy works, a type of treatment that helps the body’s immune system fight cancer.
Early studies suggest this approach could help more immune cells get into tumours, where they are needed most for treatment to work.
To move this work closer to clinical trials, the team needs specialised tools to track immune cells in tumours and blood and better understand how the treatment is working.
Your gift today will help move this research closer to families who urgently need more time together.
